Pool Cage Paint vs. Powder Coat: What Is the Difference?

“Paint” and “powder coat” are not two cans of competing pool-cage finish. Powder coating is normally a factory/fabricator process in which dry powder is applied to metal and heat-cured. Repainting an installed Florida pool cage is normally an on-site liquid-coating process.

How Powder Coating Works

Architectural powder coatings are electrostatically applied to prepared metal and then cured at a specified metal temperature. How an Existing Cage Is Repainted

An installed enclosure cannot ordinarily be put through a coating line and curing oven. Does That Mean Powder Is Always Better?

No. Architectural powder finishes can be extremely durable, but the homeowner’s real comparison is usually keep and properly repaint an existing sound enclosure versus replace it with newly finished components. Cost, structural condition, access, prep quality and the field coating specification all matter.

Watch the Marketing Language

If a contractor says a field-applied product gives a “powder-coat-like” finish, ask what that means technically. Is it appearance, hardness, gloss retention, warranty or a tested performance standard? It is still not the same manufacturing process.
