A faded pool cage can look much worse than it actually is. If the aluminum members, connections and anchors remain sound, repainting can be a rational restoration. If the frame is bent, loose, badly corroded or storm-damaged, a beautiful new coating can simply hide a structure that still needs repair or replacement.
Good Repaint Candidates
- Factory finish is faded or chalky but the frame remains straight and well connected.
- Peeling is localized and the underlying aluminum can be properly prepared.
- Screens or door hardware are aging and can be coordinated with restoration.
- Fastener corrosion is limited and can be corrected without discovering broader connection damage.
Conditions That Should Stop the Paint Conversation
- Columns or beams are bent, cracked, separating or visibly out of alignment.
- Base anchors are loose, missing, badly corroded or pulling from concrete.
- Connections move when they should be rigid.
- Corrosion or pitting has materially damaged members around fasteners or joints.
- Storm damage changed the geometry or attachment of the enclosure.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management notes that screen-enclosure performance depends heavily on connections and anchorage and specifically discusses rusted or broken fasteners as a maintenance concern. A coating does not substitute for those connections.
Repaint, Restore or Replace?

Do Not Let a Painting Quote Make the Structural Decision
A painting contractor may be excellent at coatings without being the person who should judge a questionable enclosure. If structural condition is uncertain, get that question resolved independently before using paint cost as the deciding factor.
